CIRCLE OF WISDOM & CHAMPIONS
All great organizations have Champions. There are those who lay a foundation, enhance it, empower those who engage within it, and make sure that we ALWAYS have a chance to WIN! Be it competition or in learning to mature in life.
Shhhhh...don't tell her we said this but Mrs. Victoria Miller has been one of those people. The eternal advocate of MLK and Detroit music education...the sacrifices and investments made are numerous. From seeing that students travel to China and England to assisting with instrument procurement, to fundraising, tutoring, to private lessons and so much more that she'd be embarrassed to share. Please know that with such an advocate around, even volunteering takes on a whole new meaning and our children are the beneficiaries.
Mr. James Clark, the former Band Accompanists (the only colleague of this kind in the city of Detroit for DPSCD) was instrumental in several students having piano backing as needed, but far more importantly learning several instruments so that our underserved students could receive more personal attention to prepare them for solo & ensemble festivals, integral parts in literature, and mostly prepping for college scholarship auditions. He adds to the benefit of being a musical King Crusader.
Our administration from our leader, principal Dr. Deborah Jenkins who provides an overarching vision, and AP Lawrence Fitz that is available to oversee details and the spectacular work that we will see with auxiliary coordinator Ms. Erika Stowall MLK has such a supportive group that we see no ceiling to what is possible. Future plans include working with the chorus and art teachers to produce full productions. We ALL want to see EVERY child succeed beyond this season in life.
